We talked about the family, compared pictures, saw strong family resemblances between our ancestors and enjoyed coffee and sweets. With only 10 shy of 1000-strong inhabitants, Schiavi di Abruzzo is just the tonic for a quiet, pleasant retirement location. We added self-checkin with a lockbox for the keys. Its been a tough decision but one we knew would eventually come, just not so soon. John finished the renovation with a glass enclosure (Amazon.it), towel warmer and floor tile. Our goal was Il Laghetto di Pietra Cernaia, a small lake at the foot of a monstrous rock outcropping. We will return there most definitely. John had a few projects, one being a retaining wall between us and our neighbors field. So I did my research and made a list of some village to village treks as well as some mountain trails. Wed been training for this one on an off during the past 4 or 5 months, but as this one didnt have a lot of elevation changes like the cammino in the mountains last year, we put in a lot of road time. During this scorching, record-breaking, hot, dry summer, we simmered under our ceiling fans day and night. I do have to say our feet are a tiny bit tired. As October marched on and the numbers of positive cases escalated, we decided it was a safer bet to hike just with each other. As children, we were not allowed to learn or speak Italian.
